Inside
the mind of A. MadPoet
MadPoet is a student of poetry and storytelling
practicing traditional Celtic stories since 1989. He
received his name whilst in Wales upon sleeping on a
site that legend portends would leave a man dead, mad,
or a poet. As a result, he walks the thin line between
poetry and madness.
Born and raised in the shadows of the foot hills of Angeles
Crest California, he enjoys spending his free time
amongst the hills and trails. As a child he spent many
a magical afternoon at the various renaissance faires
and festivals along the pacific coast which helped
culture a love for weaving words. Later he used that
time spent at the festivals to practice the art of
storytelling. During his adolescence in southern California,
he enjoyed a love of history and mythology, which started
with a fascination for stories and myths of King Arthur.
Since his faire days, he has traveled in Ireland, Wales,
Cornwall, England, Galacia, Portugal, Germany and the
Czech Republic, as well as across the United States.
Along the way he has met with or has been in the presence
of some of the finest storytellers of this day, both
professional and academic.
He is eager to learn more of Celtic mythology, but also
has been fomenting an interest in mythologizing early
American history, stories of the founding of modern
democracy and the common ideal of liberty. MadPoet
believes that it is important that humanity have its
heroes, that they are relevant to the age and that
they foster morality. As a student storyteller he serves
to remind his fellows what is best in humanity as it
is the art of storytelling that is also the art of
teaching how to live a good and rich life.
A. MadPoet has been working wth the graphic
artist Katherine Sunderland, also called Flidais, who
is, time permitting, illustrating the traditional tales
he tells. You can read more about Flidais and her artwork here.
